this is rolling out to Google Apps users first (you have to enable it). It looks cool, I've got it enabled, but it will break some extensions if you use those. Click this link to get access: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/render?new_calendar_optin=true (h/t Techcrunch)

No update love for me with that link. :-/ Guess I'll just keep waiting.
Arun Sathiya
@_jacksmith lovely! I guess I'll update it right now.
Arun Sathiya
@grberk it's not working?
Glenn Berkshier
@arunsathiya Nothing new and fancy in my calendar. No link to move to the new interface.
Alan Houser
@_jacksmith Doesn't work for me either.
Danny Halarewich
@_jacksmith not working for me either. Using a Google Business account

@halarewich if you have a Google Business account, then follow the instructions here: https://support.google.com/a/answer/7534764 "To choose the Manual option, go to Apps > G Suite > Calendar > New Calendar. Here, you can set by organizational unit when you’d like your users to access the new version of the Calendar UI."
Joshua Voydik
@_jacksmith @halarewich––doesn't work on my biz account, but it did on my personal.
Marc Snyder
@grberk On a personal account, you should see a blue "Use new calendar" in the top right corner.
Glenn Berkshier
@marcsnyder I have a Google Apps/Gsuite domain and accounts. I just saw someone else's post that explained that this had to be changed in the calendar app settings in the admin portal. I found it and made the change to default everyone to the new calendar, but it has to roll out. We'll see what happens...
Danny Halarewich
@_jacksmith That worked for me! After enabling it in the admin, it became available after a few hours. cc @joshvoydik
Mike Smith
@_jacksmith thanks for this! just signed up !

A change to Google Calendar?? First time since when… 2005?

One of the much awaited features.!
Evgen Schastnyy
As for me, it doesn't look optimized for smaller screens... ( the width of my laptop's is 1440 and I'd like it to be more clear. But in the end of the day, I like it. Thanks for sharing

Love the 4 day view. Using that now and it is very clean. Love keyboard shortcuts and they just feel more inviting now (ctrl or shift + / to view I think). This is so long overdue but so greatly appreciated. It is so clean and a joy to use now. I'm using a bunch of additional functionality like emailing event participants from calendar and such. I feel like many of these features existed before but I never actually used them. There is something to the new UX that is causing me to find new features and want to use them naturally. That's the definition of great UX. Very impressed and happy that Google finally pushed out a much needed update to such a core service of theirs!
Erick Barron
Wow, finally their Calendar gets a better look.
Karim Maassen
Thanks, Google Celander team! Finally! That's night and day.
Alex H
Well, I don't have the option to use it yet....So yay?

@metalhaze try using: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/render?new_calendar_optin=true

@brockgazure I think it's because I am using the enterprise version and my company needs to enable it.....
Alan Houser
@_jacksmith Try the new Calendar: 1. On a computer, open Google Calendar. 2. On the top right of your screen click Use new Calendar. 3. To go back to the old Calendar at any time, click Settings Settings and then Back to classic Calendar. Note: If you cannot see "Use new Calendar", the new Calendar isn’t available for your account yet.

Nico Lumma
that was long overdue.
Jamie Martin
Remember to turn off Ink for Google if you have that extension :)
Josh Krauth-Harding
Anyone with a G Suite account able to do this upgrade? I personally can't get the button to show up but can on my personal account.
Aja Ferrell
@jkhco Yes. I use g-suite and was able to upgrade.
Renato Ruk
@jkhco I have the exact same issue. Have you found the workaround?
Naitik Mehta
@jkhco @renato_ruk You need to manually enable it for your G-Suite users from Admin Panel > Apps > Calendar > Enable new calendar.
Renato Ruk
@jkhco @naitik_17 Great! Thank you for the quick reply, switching between the new (private account) and the old one (business) would definitely be an odd experience. :)

It's beautiful! For gsuite - I wish the appointment slots were built better - but I love it!
Zorka Kovacevich
I guess I can't get it for my chromebook but hope that Google is doing something about the ridiculously small and tight box where My Calendars are listed. I manage over 20 different calendars at time and scrolling down to access them is a pain in the neck as I can only see two at a time.
Dan Hough
*Pros*: Looks nicer, layout makes better use of space *Cons*: Feels clunkier somehow, a bit slower - the transitions are a bit toooooo long. But maybe I just need to get used to that.
Jowita Emberton
If it’s risky to use I’ll wait until it isn’t. I’ve planned out the next 6 months day-by-day in GC so wouldn’t like to lose anything :)
Ivo Vilches
It's so beautiful now :_)
Mark Espinola
+ Great job Google on a fresh, clean, intuitive update to the existing calendar functionality 👍 - Nothing earth shattering in term of new, innovative functionality.
Hrant Arzumanyan
I've been using Google Calendar for many years. I think it looks cool now :)

Learn what's new in Google Calendar

Google Calendar has a new look, with a number of new event, calendar view, and settings features to help you manage your time more efficiently and get stuff done. Here are some highlights.

See event details at a glance

When you click an event once, you can see all the event details including:

  • The entire guest list with RSVP responsesNote: To get more information about a guest from the event details, point to their name in the guest list.
  • Rooms and locations
  • And more

Tip: You can right-click an event to quickly join the meeting, delete it, or change the color.

Quickly add new events

You can create new events when you click on an empty space on your calendar.

Here you can add the following details:

  • Name of the event
  • Time of the event
  • The calendar the event is part of. If you want to add guests or edit more details, click More Options.

New view options

Your calendar will now show event invitation status, let you choose how much or how little to see. Calendar will remember the changes you made for the next time you sign in, until you change them again.

Invitation status

Events on your calendar look different depending on how you’ve responded:

  • If you’re attending an event, the event will be a solid color.
  • If you’ve answered maybe to an event, you’ll see diagonal lines across it.
  • If you haven’t replied yet, you’ll just see the event’s outline.
  • If you said no, you’ll only see the outline and the event will be crossed out.

Customize how you see your calendar

You can now choose to show or hide weekends when viewing your calendar.

  • To see the whole year at a glance, choose Year view.
  • In Day view, you can view two or more calendars from different people or places at the same time side by side.
  • To control the layout density and color set of your Calendar, click Settings  Density and color You can choose density of Responsive to your screen or Compact, and between a Modern or Classic color set.

Note: You can turn off side by side events in the Settings page.

See other calendars

To show or hide other calendars on the left hand of the screen, click the Main menu button . From this side panel, you can do the following:

  • To unsubscribe from a calendar: Point at calendar’s name, then click Unsubscribe from calendar
  • To hide a calendar: Point at the calendar’s name Options

To open the new settings page, click Settings and then Settings

  •
  1. On the top right of your screen click  Use new Calendar.
  2.  Back to classic Calendar.

Note: If you cannot see "Use new Calendar", the new Calendar isn’t available for your account yet.
