@chrismessina Super glad to hear that! I tried hard to resist adding more features, more coming soon! Would love to see you using the app :)

๐Ÿ‘‹ Hello THERE (!!) Hunters and Makers! You're doing incredible work! ๐Ÿ™‚ I'm Mo, co-founder (ugh, maker!) of There! There's mission is to let you forget about the timezones ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ•“, and focus on your communication with friends or teammates! โœจ๐Ÿ‘Œ - Who am I? I was a remote worker and I do consulting work for clients based in throughout the world. Most of my dear friends are spread in different countries. โœˆ๏ธ Often, they travel as well. - What's the problem? It was a real pain to know โฐ what time is it now for them, ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ป when they are not working and ๐Ÿ˜ด when they are sleep! Also, I asked my friends in other remote teams and they confirmed it's such a pain too. - Why a new app? I've obviously tried different timezone apps, but sometimes I don't know who is in which country as well, or simply they were travelling and I had to keep asking them where they are ๐Ÿ™€ I LOVE to answer all and any of your questions, so please do not hesitate and AMA! -- 1. It's open source! Check it out! 2. I should mention @brajbi my co-founder (and older brother!) who designed the DB and worked on our admin panel. @nikkitaftw For her invaluable help as a friend during the work. 3. FWIW I am 17 and a half right now, a minor ๐Ÿคง

@brajbi @nikkitaftw @morajabi love it. I paid for Clocks a few weeks ago and couldn't find a decent alternative... this looks to be it!

@brajbi @nikkitaftw @bentossell Your comment made my day, it won't stop getting fresh updates! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐ŸŒท

@brajbi @nikkitaftw @morajabi This is absolutely brilliant. As an investor in companies like @RemoteYear and @WeWork with massive, distributed teams, this is a no-brainer. Love the design, the functionality and the fact that you and the team scratched your own itch which turns out to be a big challenge for others too.

@morajabi @brajbi It looks great in the screengrabs, but I cannot use it in good conscience since you require twitter sign-in. Even though you have a panel that says you need to use my twitter to grab my photo and fetch my followers, and auto-update their timezones, no, thank you. Seriously: You don't need my photo. You don't need to grab my followers. You don't need to auto-update timezones by their location. All I want is timezones, and I can add where my friends are. I'm tired of handing over my social login for things that honestly, genuinely don't need it and shouldn't have it. This was part of the frustration with FB, is that they collected data they didn't need and then gave it away irresponsibly. Your reassurances that you aren't going to keep followings or tweets doesn't help me a lot. I can't use this. I wanted a good timezone app, not another thing that wants social data.

@brajbi @vmarks I can understand it Victor! I mean it. I'm adding a quick sign in by email method. I don't think I will remove the whole sign up thing as it has lots of benefits, especially as I'm working on mobile apps soon. Although we never ever store your any of your followings, never. Just photo, and name. Not even your location from Twitter. Why I chose Twitter in the first place? It was easy for someone like me to get started with the app, but I get it, it was a wrong choice for half of my potential users. I hope a quick sign in by email strategy would be useful for you. Please let me know what you think Victor. Thanks a lot!

Addresses a real pain and does what it says on the box. Nice job! Asking for Twitter signin right off the bat seems a bit much tho.
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@ohadaviv The best option so far was this, BUT I'm working on that part and it'd be ideal for more users :) Thanks for the valuable feedback! Feel free AMA again!
Siddharth Kshetrapal
Great tool! I really wanted this One question for you: How does the search work? Is it searching from my twitter people?
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@siddharthkp Hey! Thanks man! No it's not storing any of your twitter followings, these are There users!
Siddharth Kshetrapal
@morajabi Ah my bad! After authenticating through twitter, I was trying to search for folks by their twitter handles ๐Ÿ˜‹
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@siddharthkp Oh, good point! I'll enable search to look for handles as well ;)
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@siddharthkp It now searches in twitter handles as well, but not yet in your followings who don't have There. It's going to change. I just wanted to give you an update! Current latest version, has radically reduced CPU usage, Energy Impact and 90 MB of the app size.
Siddharth Kshetrapal
@morajabi sweet, that sounds exciting!

Nice job. A link to the Github page on the website might help. Its Electron. So why not cross-platform yet ? Any specific reason ? Also, Why did you choose Next.js ?
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@deadcoder0904 Hey Akshay! Thanks for the support and your question! Electron is cross-platform and that makes it way easier, but I need to make sure it works on each platform and then release it. As the platforms have small differences that might break the app. I use NextJS for almost all my projects, which are mostly websites, I tried using Parcel for There but some features weren't implemented at that time (I think they did add source map and electron env support later. So as I was familiar with Next and there was now-desktop already using it, I went for it and It was a good experience so far! FWIW, the server is on Now.sh, and I use Hyper terminal, so it seems I'm a fan of ZEIT.co, right? Haha ๐Ÿ˜› Hope that helps! Feel free to AMA again ;)
Akshay Kadam(A2K)
@morajabi Isn't everyone a fan of ZEIT ๐Ÿ˜œ Bdw you still have Parcel as a dependency. And I think next dependencies are in the devDeps section. I don't understand how it still works if its in devDeps. Not familiar with Next.js. And your API keys are on Github. I wish someone doesn't misuse it. I am also working on Electron apps. Hopefully will launch something sooner. I didn't think of this as a big project. But you have been working since a month. And its a lot big than I expected ๐Ÿ˜‚ Kudos to you. Great job & congrats on the launch.
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@deadcoder0904 Haha yeah ZEIT is quite popular because of their open source work. I should remove Parcel, thanks for letting me know ๐Ÿ™ƒ HAHA so many little details! I expected it to finish in a couple days at first. Thank you again for the support and the questions ;) See your app soon here!
Richard Mulholland
This is so smart, and exactly what I need, however useless to me at the moment as it's a single platform. As soon as there is windows support it will work for all my team, not half my team. Massive upvote from me.
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@richmulholland Windows is going to be out VERY soon! So glad to have your support! ๐Ÿ˜Š Even it might be as soon as Today!
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@richmulholland BTW I should mention more team features is coming as well ;)
Richard Mulholland
@morajabi oh wow. Awesome I'm involved with comms for a global network of 12k entrepreneurs, it's like you made this for us. There may be some enterprise level ideas I have that we could use.
Mohammad Rajabifard

@richmulholland Oh, I can't wait to hear them!

@richmulholland And update on Windows: It's getting into the Windows Store, working on the submittion!

Great work @morajabi! This is easily the most helpful menu bar app Iโ€™ve come across in a while. The ability to know if my friends are awake or potentially busy is made so much easier with There. I love how you utilized the Twitter API. It makes it super simple to add a picture of people youโ€™re working with or pull information theyโ€™ve added about themselves from the app. Brilliant work, I look forward to seeing what comes!
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@3raxton That is super awesome! And I forgot to say thanks for hunting us! โค๏ธ Made me very nervous, but ultimately it's good so far!! haha Stay tuned, cause I'm working fulltime on it ;)
Scott Wyden Kivowitz
I see mention of Slack integration, but do not see Slack integration in the actual App. Maybe i'm somehow missing it?
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@scottwyden No man, it says "coming soon" in the website, as I *could* add it easily, but I believe I can do it better. Adding statically from Slack is just like other apps out there. Also, your team members would have to do as well, you can get out of sync as well. So I'm gonna introduce the concept of "Teams" soon, with the best way for teams and users ๐Ÿ˜Š Thanks for mentioning it! Let me know if you have any other questions or suggestions!
Scott Wyden Kivowitz
@morajabi I missed the faded "soon" - I'd suggest making that more obvious :-)
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@scottwyden That's because it's not like Soon but 2 month later, Soon means soooon ahahah. Joking aside, thanks for the point!
A_Sky
It is a wonderful concept, even more it's free! It reminds me of Clocker, but it would have been great not to need Twitter to use it. I won't be able to use this app as I am not on Twitter... I think it could slow people to adopt your app eventually. Even more in the context with FB and data abuse from users, etc. Best continuity ๐Ÿ’ก
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@a_sky I don't have access to anything special/personal from your Twitter, not even your email. I clarified it in the sign up page as well, but I see your point. There will be other options later.
A_Sky
@morajabi thanks for answering, I understand you don't have access to anything, it is just that it feels a little limitative to force a Twitter sign-in... I am sure you could help and inspire much more people across the world with different options... :)
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@a_sky True that! Will hear from me soon
Gary Torres
I like it. Looks good, works good. However I don't enjoy the fact that the application is around 230mb. Is too big for a timezone app.
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@gary_torres I am actively checking new solutions to reduce the size, believe me, I'm on a 128GB mbp myself :) I'd like if you keep it, otherwise, fine :)
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@gary_torres It is ~130MB now when installed. I'll keep an eye on new technology and reduce it further. Let me know what you think!
Samar Mustafa
Beatifully crafted the distributed teams' timezone experience @morajabi. Well done :)
Mohammad Rajabifard

@samar_ux Thank you Samar! I like your name ;)
Samar Mustafa
@morajabi LoL.

I used to have these plugins for the browser where you start a new tab with all the timings of your choice. This makes things much more streamlined and efficient. To top it off, it looks absolutely great!
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@swiftpolar I used to use one of those too at some point! Thanks for the comment ;)
Alessio Fanelli
Great stuff, we used to use https://sundial.teleport.org but realized that nobody wants to go to a website to check this info. It will be very useful as a a menu bar, great job!
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@fanahova Whoa, thanks for mentioning it! I can learn much from these cases. Also, I'm always around on Twitter or our support chat, feel free to reach out for sharing suggestions or anything :)

Mauro Sicard
Awesome, love it! Just ONE thing. Many of my clients don't have Twitter, and I would love to have an option to add a photo manually to them :(, I am pretty sure this happens to other users too. But also than that, it's great. Kudos for the Makers!
Mohammad Rajabifard
Maker
@maurosicard Totally! And yeah a dozen people requested this, it's a sticky note on my white board now! You'll have it soon!
Mohammad Rajabifard

@maurosicard Good news! Hey Mauro, please try the latest version which has photo upload! Now you can edit your clients and add their photo! Let me know what you think :) -> https://there.pm

I can see this being a staple for people working in consulting firms. They tend to travel from client to client.
