Love this idea - how does the process of generating burner emails work?
Serge
Maker
@abadesi Hi Abadesi! Thank you! 🙂So, the process is that you generate a burner email address with our extension, then you give websites that burner address that you just generated, and when they start sending emails to it, all of the emails will get forwarded to your personal email address. The benefit of this is that you won't give websites your personal email address anymore and you don't risk them selling it to spammers. And when you don't want to receive emails from a specific sender anymore or you've noticed that they started sending spam, you just disable or delete that burner address from the extension or from the web app. There are two ways at the moment of generating burner emails: The first one is to use the extension and click the button that will appear in email fields as you browser websites, and that will create a ready to use burner email right there and it will fill the field with it. The second one is to generate what we call "custom burners", so if you'd like to name your burner email however you want, you have that possibility by going into our web app, logging in and creating one in the Custom Burners section in there. I hope this answered your question and I hope this wall of text that I wrote wasn't too confusing, haha. Let me know if you have any more questions or feedback!

Hi, I love what you built and I'll have a look. I use AnyAlias at the moment, could you tell me how your product is different and what functionalities I should look out for? Thanks a lot 😀

@angeliquesocial Hello Angie! Thank you for the kind words! 😺 While there are other services providing similar functionality, I believe that Burner Emails stands out for the ease of use interface, transparency and security protocols. I'm trying to keep things simple and honest and to deliver true value to the user. What I believe Burner Emails does better is: - It has a better UI and UX - Burner Emails lets you create custom burners that can be used in a more personal/general way. One way of using that would be creating a general burner for all your shopping in case you don't want them to have your personal address. - It lets you create, disable, enable and delete burners directly from the extension so you don't need to even leave the current tab - The generated burner has a random set of characters in it to make sure that the address is always unique. For example, if you want to create multiple subscriptions for a website, Burner Emails will create an address that looks like "username.website.55fb78" while Any Alias's looks like "username.website" and that does not allow you to create multiple valid accounts/subscriptions for a website. - Any Alias doesn't let you create aliases from the web app so in case their extension doesn't work on a specific website/input there is no way for you to signup using their service. - While Any Alias's extension only works for Chrome, Burner Emails currently supports Firefox too and I plan on adding Opera soon also. I have so many features that I plan on adding to the service. Some of those will be: - the possibility to change the burner's receiver address (the email address to which the emails are forwarded to), - the possibility to respond to an email using the burner address through gmail or any other email client, - the possibility to read your burner address's emails directly on the web app and not even have to forward them to your inbox anymore I hope this made things more clear. If you have any other questions or feedback, please do let me know! 🙂

@csergiu_ro Hi Serge, thanks for your response. I will definitely have a look at your service and might make a switch. I am excited about this upcoming implementation: "the possibility to read your burner address's emails directly on the web app and not even have to forward them to your inbox anymore" That would be perfect because I my mailbox will not be flooded with possible spam. How will you update us when you have released a new feature we can use (no website yet)? I will be looking out for the last feature because that is what I am looking for :). Thanks!
Serge

@angeliquesocial That makes me happy to hear! I'm trying to have it done as soon as possible but I'm not sure when that will be. At the moment, I do have it almost working but before I release it, I need to make sure that it's as bug-free as possible, haha. I don't really want to spam users with emails, letting them know about the updates as I often find those kind of emails too intrusive, maybe if I'll do that I'll also add a huge Unsubscribe link or something 😀 What I'm thinking of is: actually adding something like a banner on the top of the extension popup panel, letting users know that a new feature is available! I will also be tweeting about the updates on the @burner_emails Twitter account.
Angie
@burner_emails @csergiu_ro Thanks! I'll keep an eye on the updates.

This is great, I’ve been using mailinator but the fact that this forwards to your inbox is genius
Serge

@kylemclaren Thanks Kyle! That really makes me happy to hear 😀Let me know if you find anything about it confusing or if you have any feedback/questions.
Irene
Hi! Do you have a ETA when (and if) this will be available for Chrome and Safari?
Serge
Maker
@lamuhar Hi Irene! 👋 It's currently available for Chrome here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/burner-emails-easy-fast-d/dnnmaoecogobjdiieopljefemjdkkaja?hl=en-US I plan on releasing it for Safari ASAP but I don't know for sure when I'll finish.
Irene
@csergiu_ro Great, thanks! Cant wait to try it 🙌🏻

Are we restricting spammers see personal email address or restricting to send emails on personal email address. Because with the extension I create I will anyhow get the emails forwarded to my personal email. So spammers can use this alias and fill my inbox. How am I getting rid of that.
Serge
Maker
@rohit_kesarwani Thanks for the feedback Rohit! That's exactly what I've built this extension for 😀Whenever you don't want spammers to continue sending you spam, you delete or disable the burner and the emails will stop! It's like an unsubscribe button that actually works, haha. Let me know if you have any more questions!
Marcell
Damn I couldve used this like 6 times within the past 3 days ahahaha (Competitor Research)

@cellus_christie haha! It's never too late 😀

Hi, I want to try it, but what I don't understand is where I will be able to receive and filter emails.
Serge
Maker
@ivandrag Hi Dragos! 👋 At the moment the burner addresses forward all emails to your personal email address that you used when you registered. You can filter them from the Burner Mail extension panel by enabling/disabling or deleting burner addresses. Once you disable or delete an address, you will then stop receiving emails to that address! Kind of like an unsubscribe button. I plan on launching a feature where you could read a burner address's emails right in the web app but that's still under development, I plan on releasing it ASAP though 😀
Anderson Faria Santos
Really cool! But when I use burners emails to signup all over the internet, what happens IF you guys shutdown? I will be locked out of all my accounts... also there is a security risk that if someone hack into your servers they will be able to read all emails or require new passwords from sites. I would like to hear more about what are you guys doing or planning to do to solve or mitigate the damage that something like this could do in the future. Thanks!
Serge
Maker
@andersonfsantos Thanks, Anderson! You’re right! Those are all really good points, but I’ve already thought about those scenarios! 😀 1. That’s correct, unfortunately this risk comes with any other service that could get shut down. What I can say is that I’m really excited about building this into a great tool and I’m not planning on shutting it down any time soon. 2. Because all emails are forwarded to your personal account, they are not stored. I also use the TLS protocol to encrypt all the emails in transit, as well as SPF and DKIM for email security.

@andersonfsantos I have the same questions
Alexandra Perşea
Hunter
@andersonfsantos @jitendravyas Did @csergiu_ro answer those questions clear enough or are you still having doubts? :)
☔️ Jitendra Vyas ⛅️
@andersonfsantos yes read them. I'm still not very clear on what are advantages of using Burner email extension over this trick https://fieldguide.gizmodo.com/how-to-use-the-infinite-number-of-email-addresses-gmail-1609458192 which can be used very well with this extension https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/form-filler/bnjjngeaknajbdcgpfkgnonkmififhfo
Peter-Ross Cuthbert
@andersonfsantos @jitendravyas Not everyone uses gmail ;)
Yann
This is interesting. Any plans to make this work on mobile?
Alexandra Perşea
Hunter
@yannschaub Yes! Atm finishing the web app is the main focus, but a mobile app is next.
Yann
@alexandrapersea Very cool! Good luck with that :)

Hello Serge, that product looks great ! - You said : "The benefit of this is that you won't give websites your personal email address anymore and you don't risk them selling it to spammers." I make the assumption that the risk is the same and that your address will be sold anyway (or do the spammer sell only "good" email addresses, ie. well known emailing domain (@gmail, @yahoo etc.) ?) and that your spam folder will be filled anyway. But is the content of the spam problem a real issue ? I'm not 100% sure (on my side I never check it). - Yet I find this very interesting for monitoring which company is selling emails : a friend of mine mentioned that he was creating email like john+website_name@me.com for any signup he was doing, so he was able so monitor from where the 'leak' originated. Your product allow to do that in an easier way, I like it. Long life ! 🚀 Cheers
Serge
Maker
@edouardwinia Thanks Edouard! 🙏 I think some filter the addresses by only "good" email addresses while others sell them as-is. I do know for sure that sometimes addresses get sold by niche-specific lists. So if you register on a shopping website for apparel, you'll end up in a lot of apparel-related lists, thus getting bombarded by a ton of apparel-related discounts from different stores online for example. Does that make sense? 🙂

This looks good! I've used Mailinator for a very long time, but this looks more practical. Thank you.

Hunter
@yagiz Thank you! 😀Let me know if you have any feedback or questions.
Matt
Hi, why does Chrome extension need to manage and change data on all websites I visit?
Alexandra Perşea
Hunter
@ematt That permission is needed for the extension to be able to generate and fill the burner address on websites. If you'll look at other extensions, you'll notice that many of them request the same kind of permission, this is due to how Chrome handles permissions.
Oleksandr Senyuk
As I mentioned on Twitter, I love this tool--thank you so much, Alexandra and Serge.
