Hi all, IdeaZap is a place to get quick feedback on ideas you might have. Currently, you can: ๐Ÿ“ฃ Submit ideas: Get feedback on ideas you might have ๐Ÿ‘ Vote on ideas: A simple thumbs up or down ๐Ÿ’ฌ Give feedback: Let the idea owner know if you'd pay for his idea or give general feedback ๐Ÿ“ง Sign up to an idea: Give your email to the idea owner for further updates IdeaZap is in beta - and built without code ๐Ÿ™Œ Let me know what you think! Cheers, JJ

Love this so much! One thing, can you make it possible to pick NO topics? I'd like to see everything without particular filters.
JJ Coleman
Maker
@gsimone Thanks! As of now, filters aren't being applied, what you're seeing is everything. Filtering by topics will come at a later date.

I see a drawback: You must validate your idea with your target audience. Otherwise, validation will be useless. Keep in mind IdeaZap is a community of entrepreneurs, as you point out.

@inthe0n Good point. I've updated the description to "Instant idea feedback". IdeaZap right now is useful for gauging general interest. However, my goal in the near future is to allow users to subscribe to topics, say parenting, and allow ideas to be targeted to these specific topics for a better validation. Cheers โœŒ๏ธ

Great concept, I'll be using this. Also, I really appreciate the design of your landing page!

Great concept! Validation is everything. One comment is to add a marketing category and possibly some sub-categories (B2B, etc). Also as mentioned below some data on community personas would also be helpful. Love the on-boarding btw, super simple!
JJ Coleman
Maker
@gwerner Thanks! Adding those categories now. Do you mind clarifying your comment about adding data? Not exactly sure what you mean
Greg Werner
@jjcoleman97 wow great response time! kudos :-). anyway, what i mean by data is information about (generally speaking) what personas are represented on your platform and what personas are voting for your idea. for example, if my product is focused for sales reps, then having engineers rate the product is informative but not something i would necessarily use to as reliable validation data. so i guess the trick would be to identify the persona during the onboarding process with a couple of basic questions and then reflect a brief breakdown of those personas when viewing votes/comments. does that help?
JJ Coleman
Maker
@gwerner Ah good points. Right now I have the topics users subscribed to during on-boarding to use as data, I plan on exposing that info when viewing votes, like you say. Do you think I should ask for more user info, besides subscribed topics? Super helpful, thanks!

@nickajulia Bubble.is - great platform

@nickajulia @jjcoleman97 I tried bubble on a project early last year and found it maddening! Nice looking page, though!
JJ Coleman
Maker
@nickajulia @ken_duggan Haha thanks! I have heard that before. Do you have a coding background? Sometimes that can interfere with understanding their logic.

@jjcoleman97 awesome product JJ! what plan are you using for Bubble.is? The site seems to be running very smoothly
JJ Coleman
Maker
@bigballerrand Thanks! It's actually the personal plan
Ken Duggan
@nickajulia @jjcoleman97 Yes, unfortunately, I do! I may give it another try for an ide I'm noodling with now. I hope this takes off for you!

My only worry is that asking people what they would pay is dangerous. Because people that are voting on these ideas don't actually have to put up the money, their claims are baseless. You know nothing until someone is actually faced with paying you for a thing. Otherwise, they could say $1 or $100k, but because they don't actually have to pay anything you can't have confidence in the answer.

Am I the only person seeing a broken homepage? โ€œYour browser cannot load the application dataโ€
Luan Muniz
Dude, what are you doing with the emails? Why are you coping people in the same email? Use something like Mailchimp at least!
JJ Coleman
Maker
@luanmuniz Yep, my bad. Was sent on error, and fixed the bug. Sorry for the mishap.

What if a great idea got stolen? For example, if i come up with a life changing idea and post it there just to see the feedback or to get subscribers. And someone in the community who has enough resources to create a business implements the idea without any credits to me. How my idea is protected here?
JJ Coleman
Maker
@jaga_deep Good question. Your ideas are not protected, but I believe the pre-validation and feedback make it worth it. Here's a great article on why: https://medium.com/startup-grind/what-do-you-do-when-someone-steals-your-amazing-idea-2401fe6ac874I

@jaga_deep @jjcoleman97 why not add an NDA option for ideas, so people get to fill one before opening an NDA enabled idea, like on Freelancer with Projects?
Jaga Deep
@daniel_the_geek i saw about that, but NDA can't be effectively used with ideas. it is fine for freelance works but as the idea will be displayed to many people. They can just take the idea and implement it with the help of thirdparty. In this case you can't sue no one,as the third party could just evade by saying they never spoke to you and the person who took the idea haven't implemented it.
Daniel Omoniyi
@jaga_deep Well, there's actually no need to stress this, we're just talking about an idea, right? If anyone feels their idea is great, they wouldn't need IdeaZap anyways.
Jaga Deep
@daniel_the_geek probably you're right. Just in exceptional cases.

Curious what are the advantages of this over Product Hunt or Seedproof? Congrats on your launch!
shashidhar enaganti
Liked the idea behind the app. Not so much on the page navigation
JJ Coleman
Maker
@enaganti Cool! Any suggestions?
Jacrys
Are there any protections? Like I see potential benefit, but I also see a HUGE exposure risk... Are these "entrepreneurs" validated and vetted or is this GP? I would say this probably isn't for possibly disruptive ideas. My partner and I be a possibly disruptive idea, but are struggling with protection while getting validation now.
Jacrys
@jjcoleman97 Do you have any more information on this?
JJ Coleman
Maker
@kclewis0614 Hi, while ideas are definitely not protected on IdeaZap right now, I do think the benefits of pre validation and getting feedback is more important than potential competition coming along. I'd refer you to this article for why I think so: https://medium.com/startup-grind/what-do-you-do-when-someone-steals-your-amazing-idea-2401fe6ac874I. That being said, if you have a solution I haven't thought of, I'm open to ideas ๐Ÿ™Œ
