Hello hi. We’ve been working on Figma 3.0 for the last year, talking to hundreds of people to get this right. Our hope is that this new Styles and improved Prototyping functionality will help you build & maintain better design systems and make better decisions together.
Design is a lot about communication, both with your fellow designers and other members of your team or clients. You could of course say “this view scrolls this way—just imagine what that’d feel like!” Or you can actually make it scrollable the way you intend it to and everyone will _see_ what you mean.
Styles can similarly be used to help communicate how a design system is to be used, simplify decisions for other members of your team, or simply speed up your own workflow. We designed styles to work a little bit differently than what you may be used to from older tools: changes to a Style propagate immediately in real-time within the same document, just like changes to components. This may seem like a small detail, but it allows a whole new way of using styles for design iteration — before you know what path a design will take you, create a style or two and apply that to whatever you’re building. Later, you can very quickly edit the one style and see all of your designs update in real-time, making it much easier to find that configuration and layout that is “just right.”

Happy to answer any questions.
@rsms This update is just fantastic, I have been testing the new features since yesterday and I'm extremely happy with what I can achieve with both Styles and Prototyping, so my sincere thanks to you and to the team. Prototyping finally brings the features I need the most on my day-to-day work so I can get most of my work done on a single tool, and Styles are just miles ahead of the competition.
I know you don't really have a formal public roadmap (I would really appreciate if you did), but I wonder if you could share a little of what we can expect in the future for Figma.
@divinoag We have a lot of exciting things coming up in the next six months, including significant performance improvements, detail refinements to the Styles feature, and more prototyping features. Apart from constantly working hard to improve what we have in Figma, we're also working on a few very interesting new features and changes — more on this to come on our blog (blog.figma.com) and Twitter (@figmadesign).
Congrats on the release! 🎉
I think I'm going to have to give Figma a try.. This looks awesome!
Well done! Styles alone is a major update. Coming from Sketch, this was my main pain point in speed and efficiency. Really excited about this update. Congrats to team! 👏👏👏
@cvlvn and it's even better than the Sketch version now, because of the power of Figma's overrides and component system / library 😉
Congrats! 🎉 Figma is incredible. Coming from Sketch, I'm impressed how better it actually is. Having a cross-platform cloud design tool really is priceless. Keep up the great work! 💪
Styles + new Team Library functionality for building design systems in Figma 🤤🤤🤤🤤
Seriously impressive work. I'm blown away at what you all have accomplished here. Congratulations on creating a killer product!
