Earlier this year we launched an experimental app called Sip: a fun way to stay informed on most interesting and important tech stories of the day.
Today I'm excited for us to bring the same Sip story experience directly to Product Hunt! And not only that, we are getting everyone involved by introducing commenting to all stories. Now the entire community can join the discussion and add their thoughts to a breaking story.
It has been great working on Sip with Kristian, Nick, and Justin this past year. I can't wait to show you what we are cooking up next.
P.S. We are hiring a Head of Social Media at Product Hunt. I'd love to work with you too!
@chadwhitaker fancy gif Chad. 💪
🎊 Super excited to finally release this! When I joined Product Hunt earlier this year, the Sip mobile app had just launched - Chad and I quickly got to work on sketching out what the Sip experience could look like on the web.
It became apparent really quickly that bringing this story format to web was something really engaging: with the addition of commenting on web, it's a really neat way for the Product Hunt community to participate in the really fast-moving world of tech news.
The future of Sip News is really exciting, and I'm hyped for what we have planned! Thanks to Chad, Nick, and Justin for being great teammates on this project 😍 it's been a blast!
Sip already became my "goto tech news" in a couple of months, I really, hope the comment section will arrive in the mobile versions too.

Hay guys congrats! I’ve come to derail and ask about insider information. Do you guys have plans to amalgamate this and Chat/goals into your iOS mobile app?
I love Sip 👍 it's my favourite app for my daily tech news. I like that Sip is also available for web including comments to engage with the news and read the opinions of others.
I really like Sip News, but unfortunately I am not completely happy with this update. It was nice that I was able to read the news as a full article, and it wasn't set up for me in a way that I could get only small chunks at a time. I really hope that on the web there will be a way for users to decide themselves which way they want to read Sip News, either like an article, or a Snapchat-like story
@andrey_lukin as in, like a quick 20 second highlight video on the story rather than reading for 4 minutes? go make it yourself. sounds like a great idea.
@michael_nahu No, I mean I liked how it was since it was an article instead of bite size sentences. I dont need to be clicking something to read it
@andrey_lukin okay, well I plan on making the quick 20 second vid story ;)
@andrey_lukin Thanks for the idea haha
@andrey_lukin Completely agree. It was great to just skim through everything in one go instead of having to click multiple times. It might work great on mobile, but on desktops it's not good UX
I wish I could get this feed coming through to my Slack channel. I'm not sure I can face yet another news source. But I do like the content.
Such an amazing product. It makes so easy for you find the latest feed on Product Hunt. Love it.
Big fan of Sip, however, I wasn't a fan of a recent change to start publishing more than one sip a day. For a busy professional (sounds like an infomercial, I know), one of the big sells of the app was that I could digest daily tech news highlights in a single sitting. With multiple "sips" a day, I find myself getting behind on stories, feeling guilty, and using the app less. Would really appreciate an option to either consolidate all of the day's stories in a single sip, or customize the number of sips I receive per day. I may be in the minority on this, though :0

@sam_sles everyone has an opinion, brother, so no reason to frame yours as anything less than valid. 👍
that said, from a contrarian point-of-view to yours, even with multiple stories per day, where I've found it beneficial is that each one takes me *maybe* 30 seconds to get through. perfect amount of time for catching up while I'm waiting for others to show up at a meeting, which is my main use as far as Sip itself goes.
@_ryebell thanks, Ryan! The point I'm trying to drive home is that I'd like to configure how often/how many sip stories I receive. I love the format, but the frequency change has thrown me. I also tend to take longer than you to digest them, since I often clickthrough for more info.
It seems great so far.
I have questions though... Mostly because I've been thinking of building something similar for 2000 years now.
1. How do you know what to surface initially?
2. Do you quantify interest based on how deep a person goes into the story?
3. How is the content curated?
When I view Sip in Safari on my iPhone 7, I can't see the back / forward arrows. I know I can use the mobile app (which I'm doing now) but I first viewed Sip from a link which took me to the website.

Great job guys on a slick UX for mobile. For the Web, perhaps really just a matter of personal preference, I started to get "click-fatigue" (lol, is that a thing?). Curious what determines which snippets you're grabbing, sources, and why. For example, Cisco's acquisition of Duo had comments from TC. The VB excerpts felt drawn out b/c it wasn't adding stuff that wasn't prev. mentioned. That wasn't the case with the piece on Snap's lens and Musical.ly's acqui-shutdown though.
It makes it so easy to access daily feed without any haste of time. Nice Idea.
Really nice ,very useful and provide quick and useful sips ,
man you need to improve android app to look better on tablets the web based interface is perfect as per looks for tablet but not really good with touch and tabs click area is too small to get it with finger on tablet , wish improvement comes to android version as well
Are there any problems related to the app? It doesn’t work
Any RSS feed?

Awesome app. Like the slider format to keep people engaged with digestable bits of content.
