Hi Hunters! I’m Martijn, one of the makers of History Search. Many of us visit thousands of webpages every month; to work on documents, send emails, read articles, attend team meetings, and for everything else really. However, we’ve totally accepted that the best way to keep track of 1000s of webpages is to bookmark them one at a time. That’s why we thought, wouldn’t it be great if you could find anything you did online, the same way you can use keywords to find a document on your computer? After 3 years of hard-work and 1 year of beta testing we are ready to introduce History Search; the missing filesystem for the web. What History Search does, is index text on webpages while you browse, and it does this automatically, without requiring any additional efforts. This way you’ll be able to find anything you did online using your own words. ✅ Use anything you remember to find back articles, documents, or any other webpage ✅ Quickly find all information you saw about a specific topic ✅ Use visual previews to recognise products, documents or other webpages ✅ Export data to CSV to use and analyse it as you wish ✅ Encrypted cloud storage and synchronisation across all your browsers & devices ✅ Available for Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Safari Our first goal was to create a new technology that will work across practically every service on the web. During the next stages we will introduce ways for people to collaborate, and to make navigating back to information online even easier. 🔒We take security very seriously learn more about it on historysearch.com/security Get History Search for free now and help us revolutionise the way we work online! 😻🙏 -------- Fun Facts ⏳We started working on History Search back in 2015 🔬History Search has been tested in public-beta for an entire year ❤️There are currently over 3500 weekly active beta users 💫Last month we broke a million searches 😱History Search is among the first 100 companies to publish a browser extension in the Microsoft Store for Edge 🤙Attending Websummit 2018? We’d be very happy to meet anyone there so feel free to schedule a meeting with me here: https://calendly.com/martijn-v/websummit -------- Offer History Search will allow anyone to search the 3000 most recently visited webpages for free, but to search older records an upgrade is required—just like Slack. More storage starts at 3.99 a/month. Finally, besides the free version that is available to everyone, we also have a special offer for Product Hunters. Today and tomorrow the annual subscription will available at a 25% discount off for the first year, with: PRODUCTHUNT25 (valid Today and Tomorrow).

It's a great way to keep a track of all your history on all your devices. One in all, a great product to never lose that notorious tab that keeps getting lost.

@virinder_singh 🙌 I'm very glad you like History search 💫 We've worked hard to get it here and will keep improving it the best we can. Any suggestions of features you would like added?
Kim Døfler
History Search is awesome 🤘 Why dig through the same Google result over and over again to find something. Well don't! History Search just runs the search through pages you actually visited and give you the search results you need. Researching or working with lots of information on daily basis? History Search is gonna save you more time than you could have imagined. Great work Martijn and team 🙏

@doefler Thanks Kim!!! 😻

I am fully with my head in sales and being able to quickly recall (gmails, web pages or docs) of prospects is very convenient.

@maksym_rohanin Very interesting use-case!! 😃
Maikel Markx
Great stuff. Any plans on an Alfred integration? That would make it extremely valuable.
Martijn Verbove
Maker
@maikel_markx Very good suggestion, we'll look into it. Oh I just see you're working at Symbid! Also a Rotterdam based comp!
Vitaly Kozachenko
I'm using it since early beta and now my habits of browsing are different - I don't need anymore to leave many tabs open. I know that I can always find it via History Search plugin in all 3 browsers without thinking where exactly I've read it last time!

@kr0ky Thanks Vitaly!! 😻

@alex_chernikov Thanks really appreciate the feedback you've given us and the support with the Edge store. I can say with certainty we wouldn't have managed to get through the forest without your intro ❤️!

All i can say about this program is that it currently holds 100% of my research for both my work and my school and I hope to god it doesn't go down one day. I use it nearly hourly in my work and it has the great big advantage that i dont really have to remember what pages I've visited weeks ago that had that little fix that i needed. All I can say is 10/10 can recommend. PS. srly the one time it went down for 20 minutes I just sat there twiddeling my thumbs, I have an addiction.

@umkaia Super glad to hear that Thomas! We can truly say you've been with me on this one from day one! 🤩

@bitentrepreneur Glad to hear that!! 🙌

Pros: Easy to use and I can find searches from months ago very easily. Cons: None that I can think of.
Jonas Almut
Surely people delete history so their wife doesn't see it??
Martijn Verbove
Maker
@jonasalmut Haha 😃 well History Search is separate from your browsing history—so removing browsing history doesn't impact History Search. Also it is password protected 🔒.

I just signed up to give it a try. It flows lovely, looks great and seems super useful. Nice one @martijn_verbove

@federicojorge Thanks Federico!! Very glad to hear that 🤩, looking forward to hear your feedback after using it a while.
Federico Jorge
@martijn_verbove are you planning on having live search? I mean the results updating as you type? That would help save time and improve your search as you see the results being displayed.
Martijn Verbove
Maker
@federicojorge Sorry for late reply I missed this comment! But yes, "live" search (love the name btw) will be a feature we'll be adding coming period.

Great work!

I have been using history search for a couple of weeks now! It seems like a simple search tool in the beginning but it is really quite a powerful search tool. It saves a lot of effort and time especially when you end up searching for the same things again and again, by letting you search through the web pages relevant to you. It specifically helps me with: 1. Checking relevant solutions that I have found useful before for same coding error messages. 2. Really helpful for finding content for research for uni projects. Keep up the good work! :)
Martijn Verbove
Maker
@tisha_m Hey Tisha!! I'm very glad to hear that 💫. This is was exactly our goal while working on History Search. Thank you for sharing you use-cases😻, please keep sharing them with me in the future—it would very helpful for use while implementing new ideas.
Oliver Rösner
Nice work! I would like to use it, even thought about developing something similar. Do you support an opt-in mode or something like that? For privacy reasons, it would be a dealbreaker for me, if it would just record everything that I do online. 99% of my use case would be to find something work related, that I looked at before, so a "click to include"-button would be ok for me. Something similar could also easily be implemented on iOS via share button.
Oliver Rösner
@martijn_verbove Thanks for sharing your prelaunch story, by the way. Must have felt good to put all that into words. ;) It was a good read!
Martijn Verbove
Maker
@retendo Hey Oliver! Yes this is possible, you can simply login to the extensions, en pause it. This way it will ignore anything you do, then to add pages you can use the context menu and select "add to favorites" I think that would do the trick? Also keep in mind you are fully in control of you information, so if you delete records they're gone completely.
Oliver Rösner
@martijn_verbove Perfect, thanks! :) Will try this! @owenfar1 This might also answer part of your question, if I got it right.
Oliver Rösner
@martijn_verbove Feels great so far! Is there a hotkey to favorite a web page?
Martijn Verbove
Maker
@retendo Thanks 😻Yeah here they are: https://docs.historysearch.com/tips/power-users/move-faster-with-hotkeys
Oliver Rösner
@martijn_verbove Had a look at it, but didn't find that specific one to add a page to favorites.
Martijn Verbove
Maker
@retendo Hey Oliver! Missed this comment sorry. Its in the context menu (right-click) and you see Add to Favorites.
Martijn Verbove
Maker
@retendo thanks man 🙏, it just flew out really. I’m glad you liked it 😊

Shouldn't we be deleting browser history? I still think that if you met with a website you like, you should bookmark it - that simple. Still, this product is amazing, and I really like what you did! Keep it up 🙌
Martijn Verbove
Maker
@owenfar1 I think only partly, you should be able to access it, but not anyone else. This feature is still in early stages, but if you have a look at the web settings we offer a "autodelete" functionality. Currently this feature is still very young, but eventually it will secure your browsing, and help you keep access to your resources, but then in a secured environment.

I will try this out, hopefully it can replace Memex! https://www.producthunt.com/posts/memex
