I've been following Openbeta since the beginning. I really like what @lexilewtan and the Betawork team are building.
Side note: I discovered Sense through an Openbeta email, clicked on the link to download the app, and a day later received an email asking me to participate in a survey (screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/nNr1hnT.png). Super smart!
Also, the animated GIFs in emails are AWESOME.
hi hi i'm lexi, and I run Openbeta at betaworks! AMA
hi @lexilewtan what's the long term strategy for betaworks?
what does it mean to be a evangelist at betaworks?
is betaworks going to expand out of the east coast?
hey kevin -
those are good questions!
betaworks is not planning on expanding out of nyc, and our long term strategy is to build great products.
as an evangelist, I work across all of our products before launch time, and come up with ways to better support their needs through the betaworks community and untapped resources. for more specifics, feel free to email me! firstname.lastname@example.org
Welcome aboard, @lexilewtan!
Do you see Openbeta supporting non-Betaworks products and portfolio investments in the future?
super good question @rrhoover --
I've gone back and forth about this, but i think the answer is yes. That said, the majority of the Openbeta community are betaworks supporters, so I don't want to cheapen that relationship.
Will be interesting to see when/if you do. You promoted Context (@bencera_'s awesome app) via email a few weeks ago.
How did the idea for Openbeta come about?
Hey @lexilewtan! Welcome :)
I'm curious what you've learned about getting good, actionable feedback out of people. How do you craft your surveys? How do you think about getting good response rates?
it was actually @nickchirls' idea! You can read about his rationale here: http://blog.betaworks.com/post/45995859978/announcing-openbeta
So the surveys really vary by product and audience. We've tried surveys with up to 100 qs -- and people answered! -- but the average one has 5-8 questions.
I think its really dependent on the context.
@lexilewton - nice! cc @nchirls.
And now for the unfair question: What's your favorite Betaworks product and why?
@rrhoover I think we were the first to do a gif in an openbeta email, and I hoped that someone would like it :)
also here's a list of the past emails for anyone thats curious what they are like.
Nice! Thanks, Tyler.
@lexilewtan just announced "Openbeta 2.0," sharing some of the changes and tactics growing the community - http://betaworks.com/blog/post/openbeta-2-0/
thanks ryan! yeah, happy to answer qs about updates!
@lexilewtan - what kind of engagement are you getting from Openbeta followers? Are many people responding to the follow-up surveys you send (after the user clicks one of the links in the email)?
