"Today we are excited to launch N3TWORK (pronounced “network”), a personalized internet experience that allows you to more easily discover and share multimedia content around your interests."
It's currently invite only. Anyone had a chance to play with this yet?
I read the all things d article, but I still don't feel like I get it. What do you think, @rrhoover?
@nbashaw - I just got a follow up email, inviting me to the beta. Will report back! :)
I did too. Altho not clear during invite process what it is, or how to even get it.
it's basically competing with twitter #hashtags
I guess the idea is to make hashtags more useful?
i think so? i'm going to wait a few more revs of the product before making a more concrete decision
When I entered my password while signing up, it was displayed in clear text. Jarring, especially when on my laptop in the office.
there are many many many ui/ux sins in the product
Actually, they are reimagining how we interact with the internet -- instead of how it's been so far (open browser, enter URL or go to search engine, etc.) they wanna make content/media less fragmented. The hashtags just happen to be a great organizational/indexing tool (it's not competing with Twitter, but with "Internet browsing" as a whole :)
@imkialikethecar that is a hugely ambitious goal
haha well I guess we'll have to see what happens...
@imkialikethecar i look forward to seeing how this all plays out
I know Erik - they have a smart team behind this... I think of it a bit like Reddit (subreddit = hashtag) - as a place to go and discover interesting convos about topics you care about.
Lots of people have tried this, and failed. The most successful implementation of this has been Reddit (and aside from that, the Forum/BBS system in general).
We shall see..
Looks like these guys have pivoted....."create your own TV network".....they have a pretty stunning screen when you open the app. Haven't actually used it yet :)
@kaz ohhhh yes, you're right, looks like it. Indexing all content probably turned out to be too difficult so they might be starting with (or sticking with) video.... interesting....
I have a really weird UX with this app. I swipe to see the video, and it starts to play with no audio. Then I tap to go fullscreen, but videos only play in landscape mode so I need to rotate my phone, and tap the screen again for audio...
