I've been using The Latest for the past few days. It's a super lightweight feed of the 10 most trending/popular links shared on Twitter. Unlike similar services like Tame (http://tame.it/ cc @carmeldea) or Newsle (http://newsle.com), The Latest doesn't surface links from people you follow. At first this sounds like a negative but IMHO, this is what makes it valuable and unique, exposing things you wouldn't otherwise see in your feed. Serendipity, ftw. Protip: scroll to the bottom of the page, enable notifications, and leave the page open in your browser. Occasionally you will receive a browser notification when new links are added. They seem to have struck the right signal to noise balance.

Hi, I'm one of the creators of "The Latest". Really happy it made it on to Product Hunt. Hope you guys like it and let me know if you have any suggestions or questions.

Welcome, @Fimpen! Great work on the product. First off, as a big Anchorman fan, I must compliment you on the company name, Kinda Like a Big Deal. :) Why did you build The Latest?

We basically just needed a site that could help us find the most interesting links without all the work. Sometimes you just don't have time for Twitter or blogs. Most of all we built if for ourselves. But if other people like it as well, that’s awesome.

@Fimpen - smart. Build for yourself first. You were successful in getting press for The Latest and your previous projects. How do you approach this? Any specific strategies you can share for other founders?

Me and Oskar are constantly trying to do fun side projects, like this one. But our day jobs are in advertising and PR, so I guess we're pretty used to trying to get publicity for different projects. I don't think we have any clever strategies, but since we've been getting a few articles for our earlier projects it's fairly easy to contact the person who wrote about you the last time and tell them about your new exciting project. That usually gets a lot better results than just submitting a tip on a website.

@Fimpen - clearly you have some experience and relationships to drive press then. :) How do you see most people using The Latest? As I mentioned earlier, I enjoy the browser notifications but I imagine others may be more interested in visiting the site directly. Any surprising behavior/uses you've identified?

To me the Twitter account (https://twitter.com/latest_is) is surprisingly almost more useful than the site. Every link that makes it into the top 10 list is automatically tweeted. So it's just a feed of (mostly) really great links. Regarding the site we've been getting a lot of requests for an archive page as well as the possibility to get daily/weekly/monthly newsletters with the most popular links. We're thinking about adding this in the future.

@Fimpen - I actually found out about The Latest when it tweeted a link to Product Hunt. We do the same with products featured. I actually find some neat products on The Latest occasionally. What are your thoughts on offering different categories of top 10's?

That would definitely be great and natural next step for us. Right now it's basically just collecting links in the fairly vague category: "stuff we like". Or rather, links tweeted by people who seem to like the same stuff we do. But it would be great if we could have categories like, The Latest - in fashion, in startups etc. But then it would probably have to be links that people "in fashion" are tweeting about right now, which doesn't necessarily have to be about fashion. It would be very hard to auto-categorize links.
