My team switched out HipChat for Slack and have been really happy.
Yeah, we tried it too and it hasn't stuck. Butterfield seems to build these beautiful games/tools that miss something core.
I've been chatting with one of their folks about some of the things we are missing. Hopefully we'll see them added.
@adamslieb curious to hear, what exactly is it missing?
One of the most useful features of hipchat is the running history of files/links that have been shared in a room. http://ss.adamlieb.me/131203131428.png
I'd love for Slack to add this!
@adamslieb reading an old post so wanted to add that in the meanwhile slack does have this. Plus they also index/make it searchable
@digitalbase absolutely. They did add this and we switched out from HipChat to use it!
waiting for an invite code, this looks like its fire
It's really slick
We've been using it for a few months. Loving it so far. Great mobile apps and its just plain fun to use. Curious to here what people feel is missing right now.
So good. The iOS app crushes Hipchat's. Our team made the switch and we haven't looked back.
My favorite features - Files and Search. The search is so freaking good.
I love hipchat custom emoticons. I know it is small, but it is a really fun company thing we all enjoy. Slack has since added this
Slack is legit. It has really helped change the communication culture and patterns at our agency. A huge bonus is how receptive to new ideas the Slack team is. Highly recommend this product. Keep an eye on it for sure.
We just moved our team onto this. Keeps my engineers and non-engineers happy. Love.
not sure if everyone is aware of this or not, but... http://blogs.wsj.com/venturecapital/2014/04/25/slack-raises-42-8m-to-kill-inbox-clutter-app-overload-at-work/
Our team switched from hipchat -> slack about two weeks ago. Slack added a couple of the "must have" features we needed. So far very pleased with the switch
I don't know how my team survived without Slack previously. We switched from Skype (could never get on with Hipchat) and haven't looked back. The search is miles better, the mobile apps are incredible, and the integrations with things like Trello, ProdPad and MailChimp just make it a no-brainer.
Seems that a lot of the key features people were missing in the previous comments here (search, custom emoticons) are now in place. Time to give it another go? :)
Feeling jealous as all the cool kids seem to be moving to Slack. Still on Hipchat... At least I have the doge emote to keep me company.
i personally haven't been too impressed with search in slack. i felt like hipchat did a great job with that.
this is legitimately the greatest (enterprise) software that has ever existed. you know...in my opinion. i actually look forward to working with my team in @slackhq every day.
When your team needs to kick off a project, hire a new employee, deploy some code, review a sales contract, finalize next year's budget, measure an A/B test, plan your next office opening, and more, Slack has you covered.
